Coggins Testing: Coggins testing is for Equine Infectious Anemia, which causes cyclical fever and anemia, and is always eventually fatal. The disease is spread through biting insects, and blood to blood contact with other horses. EIA is a reportable disease, and testing for EIA is require for interstate travel and many competition venues and sales. To test for EIA a blood sample is draw from your horse, then sent to a laboratory.

****Please allow at least 5 days for laboratory testing.

Coggins tests are good for 1 year from the date the blood was draw.

Health Certificates: Health certificates are required for interstate travel. Health certificates are good for 30 days from the date of examination.

Information Required for a Health Certificate:

  • Copy of current Coggins

  • Destination name, address, and telephone number

  • Hauler name, address, and telephone number

  • Date the horse is leaving
